This review is on the video Frozen embryos give second chance to China mothers by Carrie Gracie, the China news editor for BBC.
This video is about the new two-child policy implemented into China. Many mother have had their embryos frozen are now at an advantage because they can go have their second child. Some may not have any good embryos left so it can be a struggle but many are pleased that they have the chance to give birth to a second child. The video includes an example of a woman who had her second child, a boy, from a frozen embryo.
The video appeals to the viewer's pathos through the visuals of newborn babies and uplifting music to promote good feelings and emotions. The video has text at the bottom to guide the reader along with visuals to help the viewers comprehend the changes that are apparent in China. The tone of the text is very bland, but paired with the music can be interpreted as joyous. However, there is not much text in the video to analyze.
The purpose of this video was to inform people on the changes in China from the well-known one-child policy to the new two-child policy where several mothers are having a second child from frozen embryos. One could only assume that China is wishing to promote some sort of population growth, possibly for an increased work force in the future through the change to the two-child policy. This would make sense because China's work force is severely lacking and recently China has been struggling economically as well.
