The seventh review is on the BBC article Why Beijing should lead on the North Korean crisis by Carrie Gracie, the China News Editor for BBC News
This article is about the problems that are associated with China's decisions relative to foreign policy, in this case, specifically North Korea. North Korea has been the cause for a lot of uncomfortable people in China due to the build up of a nuclear arsenal in North Korea. Even though China and North Korea have a treaty, that was quite long ago. Also the author states that China should lead in solving these problems because it could lead to them having the opportunity to take over neighboring regions allowing for better access of trade with the U.S., as well as showing initiative to solve this problem for the betterment of the region.
The author, Carrie Gracie, appeals to the audience's pathos through the description of the situation and how uncomfortable it is making a lot of people. War and nuclear weaponry are both very sensitive subjects that lead to as lot of fear and controversy. The author reveals a serious tone to gain the attention of the readers. Nuclear weapons and war are nothing to joke about, and should be taken very seriously, especially when all of the nuclear weapons in this case are being controlled by a dictator who could press the button whenever he wants to.
Carrie Gracie also appeals to the audience's ethos, by including a quote from one of Donald J. Trump's tweets, which supports the information provided in her article and creates a sense of reliability in the information provided. The purpose of this article was to inform the readers of the current situation in North Korea, and what China is possibly going to do to fix the problems developing from North Korea. Another purpose of this article could possibly be to persuade some Chinese political figures into thinking that taking charge in this situation would be for the best of their country, as stated by Carrie several time in this post.
